Seminole Lodge was Chartered April 16, 1952 as an offshoot of Doric Lodge No 140 F&AM

and merged back into Doric Lodge on July 23, 2007

The first Lodge in what is now Broward County was Doric Lodge No 140 F&AM, which was chartered in 1905.  Over the next 25 years or so, three more lodges were chartered, so by World War II there were 4 Lodges in Broward County. After the War, interest in Freemasonry, and its membership exploded, and over the next 20 years 8 more lodges were formed, bringing the total to 12 Lodges.  Then came the Vietnam era, and very few younger men had an interest in Masonry, and our membership went on a sharp decrease.  Today things have leveled off and those passing away are being pretty much replaced by newer members coming in.

As you will read in the history pages of this site, Seminole Lodge was one of the lodges coming out of Doric Lodge when their membership was so large it was nearly impossible for those interested in becoming Lodge officers to do so.  The Lodge received it's charter on April 16, 1952, but continued to meet at the magnificent Doric Lodge Temple until we acquired our own building.  As Masonry started to decline, there were really too many Lodges, and by the year 2000 three of the twelve Lodges had already merged, leaving nine Lodges in Broward County.  The membership in Doric Lodge declined to the level where they could no longer support their building, and they sold it, and moved into the Seminole Lodge Buidling in 2003.  Over the years, we have developed a strong bond, and did more and more of the work and activities together.  We jointly came to the conclusion that it would be in the best interest of both of us to once again be one Lodge.  Since Doric Lodge was the oldest Lodge, it was agreed that it should be the surviving Lodge.  During the spring of 2007 a resolution of merger was adapted and went through the required process in both Lodges.  On July 23, 2007, Seminole Lodge held its last stated communication, and on August 6, 2007, the first stated communication after the merger, the members of Seminole Lodge were welcomed once again as members of Doric Lodge.

This site is dedicated to the very rich history of Seminole Lodge.  We hope you enjoy it.  If you have any suggestions for content to be added, or any other comments or criticism of this site, please send them to the webmaster.
